0.3 Build your lab

You need a disposable Linux machine you're not afraid to break. Any of these work; pick the cheapest one to start:

   [ ] A cloud free-tier VM (AWS/GCP/Azure/Oracle all have a permanently-free
small instance) running Ubuntu 22.04/24.04 or Debian.
[ ] A local VM: UTM (Mac, free), VirtualBox, or Multipass
(`multipass launch` gives you a throwaway Ubuntu VM in under a
       minute).
[ ] WSL2 on Windows -- a real Linux kernel, good enough for almost
       everything in Phases 1-2.
   [ ] Docker Desktop / Docker Engine + Kubernetes -- for Phase 3. `kind`
(Kubernetes in Docker) or `minikube` gives you a free, disposable
       cluster on your laptop.

Minimum install for the whole guide:
build-essential (or gcc), python3, htop, strace, lsof, net-tools,
iproute2, dnsutils, curl, git, docker, kind or minikube, kubectl
# Ubuntu/Debian, one shot:
sudo apt update && sudo apt install -y build-essential python3 htop strace \
lsof net-tools iproute2 dnsutils curl git

Never practise destructive commands (rm -rf, kill -9 1, disk formatting, fork() bombs) anywhere except this throwaway box.
